a Friday night magic system for Commander

Commander is the most popular way to play Magic: the Gathering. It’s also quite different from how Magic has traditionally been played, being a casual game rather than a competitive one. Little infrastructure exists to support the casual nature of Commander—most of Magic’s systems are still centered around tournaments and competitive play.

To address this, I have designed and built a system meant for a weekly Commander night at a game store. The video “How I Reinvented Friday Night Commander” describes the rules and intentions of the system. Please watch it before proceeding.

The system exists in the form of a spreadsheet. You can find the spreadsheet below. Next to it you’ll also find a tutorial video explaining its many features.
